ESD / NBI WORKSHOP + VIDEO
You can view the video of the event at this link
Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD) has shown over the last years its great potential to enable endoscopic en block resection of early lesions in the GI tract and thus make the therapy potentially less invasive. Still, the technique is time consuming and requires a high level of skill in order to be safely performed.
This training course offers the opportunity to learn the ESD techniques from highly experienced trainers. The workshop will give a comprehensive overview on the indications and clinical data of ESD in Europe.
Olympus Narrow Band Imaging (NBI) is an optical technology available for a variety of medical disciplines which helps to visualize the minutest vascular and mucosal patterns. NBI uses only wavelengths absorbed by hemoglobin for maximum contrast. A number of studies highlight the clinical value of NBI, especially with regard to the detection of cancer and characterization of suspicious mucosal areas. Compared to white-light endoscopy, the images of capillaries are less blurred and the probability of missing a lesion is reduced.
In situ characterization of tissue becomes a reality during colonoscopies. No preparation required – technology available at the touch of a button at no extra cost. NBI has a significantly higher detection rate for SCC than white-light endoscopy and may become the standard examination for the early detection of superficial cancer in the H&N region and the esophagus.
The workshop is a two-day hands-on training course which will provide an in-depth understanding of ESD and NBI. Hands-on training will allow some of the basics of the technique, while live surgery will allow a better understanding of the set-up for these procedures.
Maximum number of participants is 8, workshop language will be English.
